Artist Statement

Print artist, Glenna McBride has been a Teaching Artist with the Oklahoma Arts Council since 1994 http://www.ok.gov/~arts/artists/air/visual/gmcbride.htmland the Arkansas Arts Council since 1999 http://www.arkansasarts.com/programs/aie/detail2.asp?id=106.  Glenna combined two degrees (printmaking and arts education) to teach art throughout Oklahoma and Arkansas as a resource artist to schools, communities, universities, libraries, and art centers.  No one is suited better to be a Teaching Artist with a BFA from Arkansas State University with an emphasis in intaglio printmaking and a BSE in art education from University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  (first printmaking teacher; Evan Lindquist http://www.askart.com/askart/l/evan_lindquist/evan_lindquist.aspx).  In the capacity as a Teaching Artist, Glenna has been able to create many art works in remote studio locations set up as AIR programs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_s4wKZMKAew.  She has taught thousands of students the "real” meaning of a print on paper and other mediums.

Glenna develops hand made prints through printing processes such as Mylar transfers, stencils, collagraphs, Pochoir prints, stamps, linoleum cuts, monoprints, monotypes, and photo etching. Sometimes creating inkless prints or embossing on hand-made paper created at River Oaks Studio. These printing methods and processes are also included as part of several alternative and traditional bookbinding processes. Glenna uses mediums and printing techniques reflecting symbolic and lighthearted statements about people, feelings, places and attitudes.

Since 1992, Glenna has worked tirelessly to integrate fine arts and alternative learning styles on a local level in her hometown of Eufaula, Oklahoma, through the creation of Eufaula Summer Arts. These efforts bring ethnically diverse Teaching Artists to mentor their talents with a wide rage of socioeconomic and culturally diverse students of all ages and abilities. In 2001 these efforts developed into the creation of Eufaula Area Arts Council, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, charitable organization for the arts www.eufaulaareaarts.org.
