2010 Drypoint Intaglio with Ashley Salinas

Thick chunky lines to delicate wisps - drypoint has it. If you’re not interested in acid baths for etching or maybe your always on the go, drypoint is a valuable asset to have in your toolbox of printmaking skills. Learn how to make different types of lines using a variety of portable tools and learn inking and wiping techniques for best results.
 
When: July 31st from 10am-3pm
Where: The WPA Studio
Cost: $75 per student ($35 non-refundable registration fee)
What to Bring: Lunch, linear drawings, interesting abbrasive materials that might scratch copper (optional)
 
Note: a minimum of 3 participants are required.

Itinerary:

  1. Prepare copper plates by cleaning and burnishing edges
  2. Use a variety of tools to make marks in the copper
  3. Clean plate for printing
  4. Proper printing techniques, applying ink, wiping, cleaning edges, press guidelines
  5. Proper drying and storage techniques

Additional Techniques:

Ashley will also demonstrate non-acid methods of adding tone to your plate using sand paper, abbrasive substances, and roulette wheels.
